We tend to focus on the condition of the mainspring motor, but the condition of the sound box determines the quality of the sound. Most sound boxes still have rubber gaskets from 50 to 90 years ago, so they have deteriorated over time. It may have melted, or it may have hardened and solidified. In such a situation, the proper vibration from the record stylus cannot be sent to the horn through the tone arm.

The sound quality is poor. Most people sell their products in this condition with the description that the sound quality is good, but.. Personally, I don't think so. The only way to send proper vibration to the diaphragm and improve sound quality is to replace it with a new rubber gasket.

15 sound boxes, it is important to remove the two rubber gaskets and inspect the outer circumference of the diaphragm on the front and back sides where the rubber gaskets were sandwiched. Even if the exterior is beautiful, there is a 70% chance that the diaphragm will be corroded or damaged. In most cases, the rubber gasket is stuck to the diaphragm, so it is difficult to remove it without damaging the diaphragm. We can remove the old rubber gasket that is stuck to the diaphragm without damaging the diaphragm. Unless you can check the condition of the diaphragm with the two rubber gaskets removed, you will not know the condition of the diaphragm, which is important for sound quality.

The images taken during disassembly are important, and the condition of the diaphragm can be determined from the images. Even specialty stores do not easily overhaul sound boxes.
